Lillian Motz Memories
Lillian Motz (Member of a Richfield, WI Homestead family) was born at 6 am on Thursday morning, September 20, 1907. Here are her memories: My parents were Walter Motz and Emma Holz-Motz. The day I was born, my 
brother, Otis, was seven years old and was sent to spend the night at our neighbors, the Kurtzhals, who were my dad’s aunt and uncle. I was born in the bedroom of the log house. (This log building was dismantled and rebuilt in the Richfield Historical Park). We lived in Colgate, in the township of Richfield.
My husband: I first met Garvin Bauer at a Halloween Party at Evelyn Maschman Bauer’s home on Elmwood Road. He was her cousin and was visiting his brother Merle and his new wife Dorothy Hoefs Bauer. After our 4th of July, 1928 Sunday School picnic at the Amy Belle school ground, he asked me for a date. We went to a show in West Bend. We 
were married on April 27, 1929 at my home as my dad was confined to the davenport. Rev. Hubert Diekvoss married us. His wife Serena played the wedding march. The attendants were my brother, Otis, and Garvin’s sister, Esther.
My aunts, Elsie Maschman, who was my sponsor, and Lydia Becker were in charge of the dinner for 30 guests. In the evening all the young people, and some older ones, came to give us a chivaree (Do you know what a chivaree is?) They were all invited in for cake and ice cream. Some of them had a bright idea and went upstairs and sewed together all of Esther’s clothes, thinking they were mine packed for the honeymoon. We did not go on a honeymoon till the end of June. We went to northern Wisconsin for a week.
